Sunday, 31st May 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) has strongly condemned the alleged rape and sexual assault of a minor by O. Watimeren Jamir, describing the incident as a grave violation of the child’s dignity, bodily autonomy, and fundamental rights. The statement was issued by NLSF President, Neivisielie Rino and General Secretary, Temsu I. Jr.

In a condemnation statement, the Federation expressed shock and concern over the alleged incident, stating that crimes of sexual violence against children are among the most serious offences recognized under law. It asserted that anyone found guilty of such acts must be held fully accountable through due legal process and face the strictest penalties prescribed under the relevant laws.

The NLSF called upon law enforcement agencies to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation and ensure that the trial is completed within the stipulated timeframe under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

The Federation further urged investigating authorities to carry out an impartial and expeditious probe to ensure that justice is delivered without delay. It also appealed to the State Government and concerned authorities to provide comprehensive support to the victim, including medical care, psychological counselling, legal assistance, protection, rehabilitation, and measures for safe reintegration.

Emphasizing the need to safeguard the victim’s welfare and dignity throughout the judicial process, the NLSF also appealed to the public and media organizations to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of the minor in accordance with Section 23 of the POCSO Act and established ethical standards.

Reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law and justice, the Federation expressed solidarity with the victim and her family and pledged continued support for the rights and protection of survivors of sexual violence.
