Friday, June 12, 2026 (Nokinketer News): A “No to Drugs and Alcohol” programme was organised by the Citizen Union of Yakor Village in Shamator district on June 11, bringing together village stakeholders and community organisations to strengthen the village’s commitment to a drug- and alcohol-free society.
The programme follows a resolution adopted by the Yimkhiung Youth Organisation (YYO) on October 31, 2025, at its headquarters in Pungro, declaring Yimkhiungland a Drug-Free Zone and urging all village councils to implement the resolution. In line with this initiative, the Yakor Village Council passed a resolution during its general meeting in January 2026 declaring Yakor Village a Drug- and Alcohol-Free Zone.
Delivering the keynote address, Citizen Union Advisor Apong Janger expressed appreciation to the Village Council, Students’ Union, Mothers’ Union and the Church for their collective support and commitment to the resolution. He urged all citizens to uphold the village’s unanimous decision and serve as examples for the wider community.
Janger also appealed to other villages across Yimkhiungland to adopt similar resolutions and work together towards making the region free from drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
The programme was chaired by Citizen Union President H. Yankiumong. Short speeches were delivered by representatives of the Yakor Village Council, Yakor Baptist Church, YLASA Yakor, NVG and YSU.
The programme concluded with the slogan: “No to Drugs and Alcohol.”
