Friday, 24th July 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Government of Nagaland has initiated a State-wide manpower rationalisation exercise by constituting a Working Group on Comprehensive Rationalisation of Manpower to review staffing across all government departments and establishments.

According to an official communiqué, the Working Group was constituted through Notification No. FIN/BUD/4-1/SLC-ERRM/WG/2026-27/63 dated July 15, 2026. It has been tasked with undertaking a comprehensive review of all government departments, directorates, subordinate and field offices, boards, corporations, government institutions, and State Public Sector Undertakings.

The Working Group will assess the functional necessity of existing posts and recommend a rationalised staffing structure in line with the State government’s fiscal consolidation targets. The exercise is based on a validated post-wise establishment database, and the information to be submitted by departments will form the primary basis for its findings and recommendations.

All departments and government establishments have been directed to submit their post-wise establishment data in the prescribed format on or before August 7, 2026. The data must be duly signed by the Head of Department and countersigned by the Administrative Head of the Department. Official communications along with the prescribed proforma have already been circulated to all departments via email.

The government has also instructed every department to nominate a Nodal Officer, not below the rank of Under Secretary or Deputy Director, for the exercise. The details of the nominated officer must be communicated to the Working Group Secretariat within three days of the publication of the communiqué.

The communiqué cautioned that departments failing to submit the required information within the stipulated deadline will have their staffing assessed based on existing establishment and payroll records available with the government. Such information will be reflected accordingly in the Working Group’s report.
