Monday, 27th July, 2026 (Nokinketer News): Konyak Baptist Church, Mon (KBCM), organised a prayer and candlelight service on July 26 in memory of the victims of the catastrophic landslide that struck Defence Colony, Mon Town, on July 19.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak, expressed gratitude to KBCM for organising the service in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the tragedy. He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved and injured families and encouraged them to remain strong by seeking God’s strength and comfort.

The DC also expressed solidarity with the families of the two victims whose bodies remained untraced despite six days of continuous search and rescue operations carried out by government agencies and local residents using all available resources.

Calling on the people to stand united during times of disaster, he urged citizens to work together in rebuilding the town affected by the landslide. He commended the efforts and sacrifices of the 42 Assam Rifles, Nagaland Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), non-governmental organisations and volunteers from various wards for their tireless service during the rescue operations.

Emphasising the importance of humanity and unity, Wennyei encouraged the public to remain prepared to face such natural calamities in the future.

He also expressed gratitude to the State government led by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and the nine elected representatives of Mon district for their support and assistance during the tragedy.

During the programme, Yinai, husband of late Pomei and the lone survivor of his family, shared a testimony. Minister C.L. John and his wife also attended the service.

Short speeches were delivered by Konyak Union President Yamao Konyak, Konyak Students’ Union President Temwang Konyak and the president of the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF).

The service concluded with a message of hope and a candlelight observance led by Rev. H. Moba Konyak, pastor of KBCM.
