Wednesday, 29th July 2026 (Nokinketer News): The 39th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch (IRCSN) was held at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on Wednesday, with Governor Nand Kishore Yadav calling for strengthened humanitarian service and greater community resilience.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor, who is also President of IRCSN, lauded the Society’s humanitarian work in disaster response, health awareness, first aid, voluntary blood donation and youth engagement. He stressed the need to enhance disaster preparedness, promote voluntary blood donation, expand first-aid training and strengthen community outreach in view of increasing challenges posed by natural disasters, public health emergencies and climate change.
Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, Vice President of IRCSN, commended the organisation’s contribution to public health, disaster management and community welfare. He highlighted the successful implementation of the Community First Responders (CFR) training programme, jointly conducted by IRCSN and the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), across all districts of the state. He said the initiative has created a network of trained volunteers equipped with first aid and emergency response skills, which is crucial for disaster-prone Nagaland.
The Chief Minister urged IRCSN and NSDMA to further expand the programme to every village and community, while reaffirming the government’s support for disaster preparedness, youth volunteerism and humanitarian initiatives.
Earlier, NSDMA Joint CEO and IRCSN Managing Committee member Dr. Johnny K. Ruangmei highlighted the importance of volunteerism and community participation in disaster response, citing the recent landslides in Mon district as an example of collective humanitarian action. He said the AGM served as an opportunity to renew the Society’s commitment to strengthening volunteer services and disaster preparedness.
