Mon, 5th September, 2026 (Nokinketer News): Konyak Union president K Yamao Konyak has called for greater investment in sports infrastructure, training facilities and equipment to support young sportspersons in Nagaland.

Addressing the closing programme of the 48th Inter-District and State Badminton Championship 2026 at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Mon, on September 4, Yamao, who attended as the special guest, said sports go beyond competition and winning, helping build relationships, friendships and understanding among communities.

Encouraging young participants to aim beyond the district and state levels, he urged them to dream big, work hard and maintain discipline. He also cautioned them against alcohol and substance abuse, stressing the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Yamao said sports provide a peaceful platform to express courage, strength and determination, adding that “the battlefield has been replaced by games and sports, and weapons have been replaced by pen and paper.”

He appealed to the state government to further strengthen sports infrastructure, training facilities, equipment and opportunities for emerging athletes.

The programme was chaired by Manyei N, assistant professor, Wangkhao Government College, Mon. Rev. Yeangphong, district chaplain, pronounced the invocation, while Dr Watizulu Suzumeren, president of the Nagaland Badminton Association, delivered the presidential speech. A special number was presented by Hentok Konyak, followed by a vote of thanks from Y Pongba Konyak, president of the Mon District Badminton Association and co-convener, Planning.
