Kohima, 5th September, 2026 (Nokinketer News): The North Eastern Council (NEC), under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), has completed nine major projects worth nearly Rs 80 crore in Nagaland during July-August 2026, covering ecological conservation, drinking water, coffee processing, cultural heritage, tourism, road connectivity and livelihood promotion.
Among the completed initiatives are five projects valued at Rs 16.06 crore that were completed in July, according to the NEC.
Under the Scheme of NEC (SoNEC) – 30% Focused Development Component, scientific afforestation projects in Phek and Peren districts, each sanctioned at Rs 3 crore, were completed. The projects aim to restore degraded landscapes, check soil erosion and promote biodiversity while involving Joint Forest Management Committees and generating local employment.
A Clean and Safe Drinking Water Facility at Nagaland University’s Medziphema Campus, sanctioned at Rs 4.43 crore, was operationalised on July 2. The facility is expected to benefit students and scholars as well as adjoining rural settlements.
The NEC also completed a Rs 4 crore project for value addition in Nagaland’s coffee sector on July 15. The initiative includes modern coffee-roasting equipment and training for entrepreneurs, enabling local growers to process their produce within the state.
In the cultural sector, the Council completed the Naga Indigenous Inn-cum-Learning Centre at Kijulo, Phesama, at a cost of Rs 1.66 crore; the Museum-cum-Library and Guest House at Chungliyimti, sanctioned at Rs 3.11 crore; and the Konyak Heritage Complex in Mon district, sanctioned at Rs 22.78 crore.
The Development of Kohima View Point at Aradura Hills, sanctioned at Rs 4.50 crore, was also completed, adding to the state’s tourism infrastructure.
Under NESIDS-Roads, the NEC completed an 8.4-km road and bridge project connecting NH-29 at 7th Mile Model Village through Seithekiema C Tourist Destination to Niuland Road towards Governor’s Camp. The project was sanctioned at Rs 32.89 crore and is expected to improve connectivity in the area.
During July-August, the NEC also released Rs 33.92 lakh under SoNEC towards the nearly completed Tribal Artisans Resource Centre at Chümoukedima, sanctioned at Rs 2.91 crore. The centre is aimed at supporting and promoting traditional tribal artisans.
An additional Rs 6 lakh was provided for an awareness workshop on agarwood cultivation and trade, aimed at promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities linked to the state’s forest resources.
The NEC said the projects collectively reflect its focus on strengthening infrastructure and livelihoods while promoting environmental conservation, cultural heritage and inclusive development in Nagaland.
