Kohima, 14th September 2026 (Nokinketer News): The 3rd Quarterly National Lok Adalat held across Nagaland on September 12 settled 387 of the 444 cases taken up, achieving a disposal rate of about 87 per cent and involving a total settlement amount of Rs 5.26 crore.
The National Lok Adalat was conducted under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) through 11 benches at district headquarters. Of the cases disposed of, 318 were at the pre-litigation stage and 69 were pending cases.
The matters taken up included bank and loan recovery cases, telephone bills, criminal compoundable offences, motor accident claims tribunal (MACT) cases and other civil disputes.
Dimapur recorded the highest number of disposals, with 152 cases settled for Rs 1.71 crore. These included 123 bank recovery cases, three MACT cases, 25 BSNL cases and one pre-institution mediation and conciliation case.
Kohima settled 62 cases, including 52 bank recovery cases, eight BSNL cases, one commercial suit and one case under the Negotiable Instruments Act, involving a settlement amount of Rs 1.94 crore.
At Peren, 42 of 52 pre-litigation cases were settled, comprising 51 bank recovery cases and one electricity bill dispute. The settlement amount stood at Rs 16.23 lakh.
Phek recorded a full disposal of all 37 pre-litigation bank recovery cases taken up, with settlements amounting to Rs 35.41 lakh.
Kiphire settled 44 of 47 pre-litigation bank recovery cases for Rs 14.49 lakh, while Zunheboto disposed of all five pre-litigation bank recovery cases, involving Rs 20.64 lakh.
In Mon, 16 of 19 pre-litigation and litigation bank recovery cases were settled for Rs 48.78 lakh. Mokokchung settled 10 of 11 pre-litigation bank recovery cases, with a settlement amount of Rs 8.86 lakh.
Tuensang disposed of all five cases taken up, involving an outstanding amount of Rs 23.20 lakh and a settlement amount of Rs 8.62 lakh.
In Wokha, four of five pre-litigation bank recovery cases and three of five pending criminal compoundable cases were settled, with a total settlement amount of Rs 1.92 lakh.
Longleng settled six of 10 cases taken up, comprising six pre-litigation and four pending litigation cases, with settlements amounting to Rs 5.69 lakh.
The Lok Adalat provided litigants and parties an opportunity to resolve disputes through conciliation and settlement, helping reduce prolonged litigation and facilitating quicker resolution of cases.
