Mokokchung, 24th September 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Ungma Senso Mongdang, apex organisation of Ungma village, has strongly condemned the remarks of NSCN(IM) leaders V.S. Atem and R.H. Raising, who reportedly stated on September 16 that former Nagaland Chief Minister Padma Bhushan Dr S.C. Jamir had no mandate or right to speak on the Naga political issue.
In a press statement issued by its president Imtisungkum Longkumer Tatar and general secretary Temsunungsang Jamir Tatar, the organisation questioned the authority of the two leaders to challenge the standing of Dr Jamir, describing him as a prominent statesman and son of the soil of Ungma.
The Senso Mongdang asserted that the Naga political issue belongs to the Naga people as a whole and cannot be treated as the private property of any individual, faction or armed group. It maintained that every bonafide citizen of Nagaland has the right to express views on the political issue and that such rights cannot be curtailed by outside elements.
Recalling Ungma’s historical role in the Naga political movement, the organisation pointed out that the Second Naga People’s Convention was held in the village from May 21 to 23, 1958. It also referred to the Naga political meeting organised by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation at Ungma on August 23, 2025, which brought together representatives of different factions and Naga civil society organisations.
The Mongdang said the people of Ungma had made substantial sacrifices for the Naga cause and questioned the contribution of those attempting to dictate terms to the people of Nagaland.
It further stated that Dr Jamir’s contributions to Nagaland’s political development, peace process and constitutional protection of Naga interests were matters of recorded history. Dismissing his voice, it said, amounted to disrespecting not only the former chief minister but also the people of Nagaland, particularly Ungma.
The organisation declared that it would not cooperate with, engage with or honour the leadership of any organisation, group or faction associated with V.S Atem and R.H Raising. It also warned that attempts to undermine or intimidate respected Naga leaders from Nagaland would face resistance from the people of Ungma.
The Mongdang expressed solidarity with the ultimatum issued by the Ao Senden on September 23 and appreciated civil society organisations for their support. It called upon Naga organisations and citizens to remain united against what it described as divisive politics.
The statement also criticised MLA and Advisor to the Chief Minister Achumbemo Kikon, alleging that his comments were based on an incomplete understanding of history and cautioning him against trading the birthright of Nagaland’s citizens for political mileage.
The Mongdang urged all Nagas of Nagaland to stand united in defence of their rights and the dignity of their people.
