Mokokchung, 28th April, 2026 (Nokinketer News): In preparation for a major civil defence mock exercise, the Nagaland State Government has ordered a brief but coordinated power shutdown across ten districts on the evening of April 30, 2026.

The exercise, code-named ‘Operation Night Guard’, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM and will simulate a drone attack scenario. As part of the blackout drill, the Power Department has been requested to cut electricity supply across all ten designated Civil Defence districts from 6:30 PM to 6:45 PM, following which power will be restored upon the sounding of the second siren.

The exercise will cover the following districts: Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mon, Phek, Tuensang, Peren, and Kiphire.

During the 15-minute blackout, all non-essential lighting—including solar power, inverters, and vehicle headlights—must be switched off. Only essential services such as hospitals will remain exempted from the power cut.

According to an official order issued by the Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, the mock drill is being conducted under the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The scenario involves a drone attack leading to structural collapse, fire outbreaks, casualties, and public panic—requiring a multi-agency response, including fire services, search and rescue, medical aid, crowd control, and traffic management.

Key objectives include: Testing air raid and blackout protocols, Assessing inter-departmental coordination, Evaluating emergency response times, Validating the Incident Response System (IRS)-based command structure.

Citizens are urged to cooperate with Civil Defence Wardens and colony-level volunteers. “The blackout will last for 15 minutes. Cooperation of the community is very important for the success of the mock exercise,” the order states.
