Mokokchung, 8th May, 2026 (Nokinketer News): As part of its yearlong celebration, Akashvani Mokokchung, in collaboration with Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS), organized a marathon race here on Friday under the theme “Run for Health, Unity & Discipline” to commemorate 90 years of Akashvani/All India Radio.

A total of 108 students, both boys and girls, participated in the race. Winners in each category were awarded cash prizes, certificates, and medals, while all participants received certificates of participation.

Rev. Sr. Flowerlit, Vice Principal of QMHSS, extended a warm welcome to all attendees. Referring to the theme, she noted that education is not confined to classrooms but is nurtured through discipline, physical fitness, unity, and determination. She called the marathon “a beautiful initiative that encourages healthy living while strengthening the spirit of togetherness amongst us.”

Commemorating Akashvani’s 90-year journey, Sr. Flowerlit acknowledged its contribution to connecting people, spreading awareness, and serving society. She told the participants that their presence reflected courage and sportsmanship, adding that sincere participation is an achievement regardless of the outcome. She also appreciated the organizers and teachers and expressed hope the event would inspire a healthy, disciplined, and united life.

Delivering the words of appreciation, Shri Habemo Ngullie, HOP/PEX of Akashvani Mokokchung, said it was a privilege to partner with QMHSS for the marathon. He thanked the school’s Principal and acknowledged the cooperation of the institution, the Sports Committee, organizers, teachers, and volunteers.

Congratulating the runners, Ngullie stated that the marathon carried significance beyond sports, as it commemorated 90 years of Akashvani. “For nine decades, Akashvani has been a trusted voice informing, educating and inspiring generations,” he said, adding that the event also aimed to promote health, unity, and discipline.

The programme was chaired by Assistant Teacher Anita Rai. Rev. Sr. Elizabeth, Headmistress of QMHSS, delivered the invocation. Prize distribution was conducted by Assistant Teacher Aososang, followed by benediction by Assistant Teacher Benjungrenla. The programme concluded with the school anthem led by School Prime Minister Katienla.
