Mokokchung, 12th June 2026 (Nokinketer News): The District Child Protection Unit, Mokokchung, under the Department of Social Welfare, observed ‘World Day Against Child Labour 2026’ on Thursday, 12th June, 2026, with a poster campaign on the theme “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults” guided the day’s activities aimed at sensitizing the public and strengthening institutional response.

As part of the awareness drive, DCPU Mokokchung organized a poster campaign at key public locations, including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Mokokchung Municipal Council Shopping Complex, car workshops, restaurants, dhabas and petrol pumps. The campaign highlighted the legal provisions against child labour and citizens’ role in reporting violations.

Five 5th-semester interns from Fazl Ali College actively participated in the campaign, interacting with shopkeepers, workers and the public to spread awareness about protecting childhood and ensuring education for all children.

On the same day, the Labour Department, Govt. of Nagaland, in collaboration with District Child Protection Unit, Mokokchung organized training on “Roles and Functions of the District Task Force, Mokokchung, in the Implementation of the Standard Operating Procedure for Rescue and Post-Rescue of Child Labour”.

The training was held at the Conference Room, DC Office, Mokokchung. It focused on equipping taskforce members with knowledge of legal procedures, coordination mechanisms, and rehabilitation support for children rescued from labour. Officials emphasized that rescue must be followed by counseling, education support and family reintegration to ensure children do not return to work.

The stakeholders and officials present were the Sr Superintendent of Police, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Chief Medical Officer, Principal District & Session Judge, District Welfare Officer, District Education Officer, District Child Protection Officer, Urban Development Officer, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, all BDOs, and President Watsü Mungdang. Officials present emphasized that child labour violates the fundamental right to education and childhood. They urged the public to treat child labour as a community issue and to use Child Helpline 1098, which operates 24×7, to report any suspected cases. The dual events marked a coordinated effort by the district administration, labour department and civil society to send a clear message: childhood is for learning, not labour.
