Friday, June 26, 2026 (Nokinketer News): The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA), Kohima, held its meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Kohima, on 25th June 2026 under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS. S. Supongmeren Jamir, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Chairperson, DISHA, Kohima, and Medokul Sophie, Ex-MLA and DISHA Member, were present at the meeting.

In his address, Supongmeren emphasized the need for departments to present their achievements against set targets and explain the challenges faced in implementation. He stated that the purpose of the meeting was not only to review progress but also to identify bottlenecks and facilitate necessary interventions at the district, state, and central levels.

During the meeting, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, represented by Deputy Director, Dr. Gwathonlo Tsela, presented its activities and schemes. The discussions focused on livestock census data, promotion of mithun farming, livestock insurance, entrepreneurship development programmes, and support provided to farmers. The MP stressed the importance of accurately documenting livestock resources, noting that proper data representation was essential for future project planning and funding support.

The Agriculture Department, represented by SDAO Kohima Viketuno, highlighted ongoing agricultural schemes and crop development programmes. During the discussion, Supongmeren underscored the need for departments to maintain records on production output, income generation, and market linkages arising from government-supported agricultural projects. Referring to the successful revival of millet cultivation, the SDAO stated that during the Millet Festival in Kohima, farmers had harvested over 4,000 kilograms of millet and generated an estimated income of ₹13–14 lakh through sales. Medokul also called for comparative studies on agricultural investments and productivity, expressing concern over the decline in agricultural activities in some rural areas despite increased government spending.

The Department of Urban Development presented progress under various schemes, including support to street vendors through the PM SVANidhi programme. Officials stated that 1,115 loan applications had been sanctioned and disbursed through banks. While appreciating the department’s efforts, the MP emphasized the need to balance support for street vendors with urban management and town beautification, urging close coordination with the Kohima Municipal Council and the district administration.

The Labour Department, represented by Assistant Labour Commissioner Neimenuo, presented welfare schemes and registration statistics under various labour welfare programmes. Supongmeren commended the department for its outreach activities and efforts to create awareness about labour welfare benefits. Medokul also suggested maintaining separate data on local and non-local beneficiaries to assist in policy planning and informed decision-making.

Executive Engineer Er. Wabang of the R&B Department presented updates on the NESIDS-funded road project from Khonoma to Dzüdza village. The MP reviewed the progress of the project and sought updates on the timeline for completion, road maintenance, landslide restoration measures, and other ongoing infrastructure works.

The meeting further discussed the need for timely fund releases, challenges in project implementation, employment opportunities, the creation of a single-window job advertisement system, and the need for improved monitoring mechanisms. Supongmeren urged all departments to focus on measurable outcomes and ensure that government schemes translate into tangible benefits for the people.

The Departments of Roads & Bridges, National Highways, Power, and Water Resources were tasked with giving departmental presentations at the next DISHA meeting.
