Mokokchung, 10th September 2026 (Nokinketer News): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Thursday conducted a comprehensive review of major developmental schemes and government projects in Mokokchung district, urging officials to move beyond a scheme-driven approach and focus on delivering measurable outcomes for the people.

During his visit, the Governor also interacted with civil society organisations (CSOs) and beneficiaries of various government welfare schemes to assess the impact of ongoing development initiatives.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, attended by elected representatives, Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Senior Superintendent of Police, and heads of line departments, Yadav underscored the need for accountable, coordinated and people-centric governance.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor described Mokokchung—widely known as the “Land of Pioneers”—as a district with a rich legacy in education, public service, institution building and community leadership since its establishment in 1889.

“Such a distinguished legacy places a responsibility on all of us to uphold it through effective, transparent and efficient governance,” he said, while calling on government departments to adopt an outcome-based approach that delivers tangible benefits to citizens.

The Governor highlighted five priority areas requiring immediate attention: accountability, inter-departmental convergence, youth empowerment, agriculture and the local economy, and sustainable tourism.

He directed officials to conduct regular field inspections and ensure accountability for project delays. Stressing convergence, he said departments must function as a unified team, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, tourism and youth development.

Emphasising the importance of investing in young people, Yadav called for greater focus on quality education, digital literacy, entrepreneurship and employable skills, stating that “youth must be treated as partners in development.”

He also advocated enhancing agricultural productivity through value addition, branding and improved market access for farmers, while promoting handloom and handicrafts. On tourism, he stressed the need to develop a sustainable model that creates local employment and income without compromising the district’s environment and cultural heritage.

The Governor urged every department to regularly evaluate its performance by asking three key questions: What have we achieved? What remains pending? And what specific action should be taken next? He further directed departments to set realistic targets backed by clear timelines.

Expressing confidence in the district’s future, Yadav said coordinated efforts could ensure better opportunities for youth, improved incomes for farmers, enhanced public services in every village, and the preservation of Mokokchung’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, delivered the welcome address, while EAC Mokokchung Er. Neithozo Theunuo, NCS, presented the district profile. Departments including Agriculture, Health, PWD (Roads & Bridges), Land Resources and DPO (ICDS) made presentations on their ongoing programmes and achievements.

Advisor for Water Resources, Government of Nagaland, Tongpang Ozukum, also addressed the gathering. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Atsungba Walling, NCS.
